Long runs are always good

Posted by rlog on April 19, 2007

Long runs have always been good to me. I really enjoy my longer runs, well at least those that go on for the duration before I hit the wall. Once I get past the initial awkward stiffness stage and when the sweat starts to pour freely, that’s when I really hit the sweet spot and any distance seems do-able. For a few minutes problems seems easier and the world generally just seems easier to manage, don’t know whether it’s the dorphins talking but I just crave it. Too bad life interferes and there aren’t that a many days we can enjoy a nice long run without getting up at 4.30 am everyday. Run long run strong.

On another note I am still looking for a good HM watch. Been looking at Polar, Timex and another one which name escapes me now. The reviews on Timex seems to be split 50-50 between it being really good and a piece of crap. So I don’t know about that one. A lot of runners seems to prefer Polar but my gripe about it is, it’s next to impossible to find it in any major shopping outlets or watch shops. Ask them about Polar and they give you this glazed over and confused look, which gets me thinking about trying to get any sort of after sales support for this model. Still searching and open to options at this stage.

How far you have come

Posted by rlog on April 2, 2007

Sometimes after running for so long it’s easy to neglect your own achievements or health. When you are stuck in a rut and feel that running is a drudgery and can’t really see the benefits of it anymore, it’s time to look at your non running friends. It’s not to gloat over or to feel superior, it’s just that by looking at them you see how far you have come. You then notice that walk up that flight of stairs didn’t even cause you to break a sweat while your winded colleague is asking you to slow down.

These are just some of the small personal victories that we runners are privy to. Privately enjoy the moment and see what kind of difference it will make to your next run. More often than not after running for so long you must learn to re-love your sport. This is one of the ways. Just small pockets of confirmation of your good health. Enjoy them. Your earned it :)
